The Fronius PV-Genset solution ensures optimum interaction between the photovoltaics and diesel generator. This saves fuel, lowers energy costs and ensures a stable and reliable power supply.
With the PV-Genset Advanced solution, PV systems can be easily and quickly integrated into diesel systems in which several diesel generators are being used. The Advanced solution is primarily designed as a retrofit solution for multi-generator systems. The controller is the communication interface and assumes perfect control of the entire system. The PV system can thus relieve the workload of the diesel generators as much as possible and save costs. A striking feature of this solution is the combination and compatibility of strong partners such as ComAp, DEIF, Elum or Encombi.
The PV-Genset Professional is the fully integrated and harmonised solution for multi-generator systems. The controller is the communication interface and assumes perfect control of the entire system. This results in optimum interaction and relieves the workload from the diesel generators in the best possible way through the PV system. A striking feature of this solution is the combination and compatibility of strong partners such as ComAp or DEIF.
Diesel generators are often associated with high and heavily fluctuating costs – which depend on the price of oil, transport costs and taxes. Depending on the region, the oil price is currently up to €2.5/KWh. In contrast, the cost of photovoltaics has fallen steadily in recent years and currently stands at €0.10/kWh on average worldwide.
As soon as the levelized cost of energy of a photovoltaic system undercuts those of a diesel generator, a PV-Genset system is a worthwhile investment.
The Fronius PV-Genset solution means we can make a significant contribution to saving energy costs, because every diesel kWh saved saves cash. As an installer, you can therefore impress your customers with a short payback period and low energy costs in the long term.
To ensure stable operation of your PV-Genset system, not only the integrated components are essential, but also their smart control: It ensures smooth operation and also ensures maximum yields and noticeable savings in energy costs.
The solar controller is the communication interface and is responsible for the flawless control of the entire system. Thanks to the integrated Fronius communication unit, third-party components are easy to integrate into a control unit using Modbus RTU or via TCP using the SunSpec inverter control model.

A tobacco factory in Zimbabwe has been using a PV system coupled with a 150 kVA diesel generator for several years. Following the completion of a capacity upgrade project, the system will ultimately be able to save up to 60 % in their previous daily fuel usage, which could work out to as much as 100 litres of fuel a day or more. The system was installed and commissioned by local Fronius System Partner James Davy, supported by OneStopSolar.
